FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF ESPÍRITO SANTO

UFES is the leading university of higher education in Espírito Santo. It was founded on May the 5th in 1954. The university has four campuses, with its main campus being located in Goiabeiras, Vitória. The Goiabeiras campus has a large green area, encouraging walks and making it a great location for birdwatching. The area has a very rich environment because it is surrounded by mangroves under environmental protection. In addition, the campus is home to several cultural facilities, like a theater, a student radio station, an astronomical observatory and planetarium, a water park, among others. The university has a restaurant, which can also be used by guests at an affordable price. For more gastronomic options, please visit the Rua da Lama, located opposite the campus. The place is known for its wide range of restaurants and traditional pubs.

TIPP: Birds are used to humans. These birds are docile and can be observed/photographed easily.

HOW TO GET THERE

HOW TO GET THERE BY PLANE

The airport Eurico de Aguiar Salles is the only airport iin Vitória. It is located just about 3 km from UFES. From the airport you can take the taxi or the bus. UFES and aiport are located in the same street.

HOW TO GET THERE BY BUS

UFES is very well known in Vitória, which makes it easy to be found. If you travel by bus from another state, you'll arrive at the cits's bus terminal. From there, you have to take one of the local busses at the terminal entrance. There are three options: municipal, intercity and selective, the last one has air conditioning. The first two cost about (+/- R$ 2.75), the third one is a bit more expensive (+/- R$ 5.20). All buses indicate their route. Look out for the ones with UFES written on the front. There are regular connections.

HOW TO GET THERE BY CAR

UFES can easily be reached by car. You need to follow the signs that take you to the Avenida Fernando Ferrari, street where the university is located. Traffic signs indicate the direction. The campus offers free parking spaces for students, staff and visitors.

HOW TO GET THERE BY BIKE

If you want to get around by bike, you have to be very careful, because the city does not have enough save bike paths yet. Arriving at the university by bike requires special attention, because it is located at one of the city's most busy streets. Furthermore, the neighbouring district Jardim da Penha is almost exclusively residencial which leads to an excess of cars and people. Ir até a UFES de bicicleta requer ainda mais atenção, devido a Universidade estar localizada em frente a Av. Fernando Ferrari, que é uma das mais importantes do município e, também, por ter Jardim da Penha como bairro vizinho, pois o mesmo é um bairro exclusivamente residencial, o que gera sempre um fluxo intenso, tanto de carro como de pessoas. However, riding the bike on campus is easy and worth it!

HOW TO GET THERE ON FOOT

You can walk to UFES. A map and residents will help you to find your way. Just pay attention in Jardim da Penha, because this district is full of squares and roundabouts, which confuse visitors as well as residents. At night you should pay attention and be careful on the campus as well as in its neighbouring streets.
