BIRDWATCHING IN ESPÍRITO SANTO

SERRA

(MESTRE ALVARO)

BIRDWATCHING LOCATIONS AND CONTACT WITH NATURE

THE ASCENT OF THE MESTRE ALVARO

TRAILS

The Mestre Alvaro has easily accessible trails from the Serra and restricted access to other trails from south. The main trail is a well marked path, but not very clean due to misuse. It is a simple hike, but full of steep hills bordering the valley and a waterfall. The first half of the trail is a relaxing walk over the hilltops, windy just right before the highest peak. The trail takes about 4 hours at an easy pace and with strategic stops for snacks and rehydration; people in good physical condition can make it in less than 2 hours.Recently, the group Guardiões do Mestre (Guardians of the Mestre) have begun to map trails and waterways. They are eager to find out more about the stories behind those trails.
