BIRDWATCHING IN ESPÍRITO SANTO

SANTA TERESA

BIRDWATCHING LOCATIONS AND CONTACT WITH NATURE

Santa Teresa is a brazilian county in the state of Espírito Santo. Its estimated population in 2007 was 20,179 residents.

The county can also be called "Espírito Santo's hummingbird", thanks to the high abundance of the bird in this location and mainly due to it being the place where the scientist Augusto Ruschi was born and raised. He was the research pioneer with hummingbirds and founder of the Biology Museum 'Professor Mello Leitão', which is located in the town.

The county is one of the most diverse in the world and is surrounded by local mountains of the serrated region of Espírito Santo, with around 40% of its territory containing the Atlantic Forest. It is known as the first town colonized by italian immigrants in Brazil.
